Over 30 million Americans* suffer from Eczema, an inflammation of the skin that causes dryness, itching, redness, sleep deprivation and a host of other adverse effects.

Meet Carissa

Her struggle with Eczema

Since infancy, Carissa has been battling flare-up after flare-up, leaving her skin raw, extremely irritated and open to infection. After exhausting all ends of the treatment spectrum, from steroids to homeopathic, Carissa was left vulnerable to harmful illnesses and constant emotional insecurities.

Carissa’s Eczema worsened over the years and her school life was affected tremendously. Classmates bullied her and spread rumors that she was infectious – the added stress left her self-esteem needing as much care as her skin. Despite the trauma she endured, Carissa and her family focused their energy on finding a solution that would not only improve her skin but change the way she perceived herself. Together, they ventured to Avène.

Her strength to endure and overcome has given her the confidence to be her truest self – a tenacious, smart, funny, empathetic young woman ready to power through life.

DONATIONS

Kindness is Power

In an effort to help girls like Carissa, in 2017, Avène donated 100% of proceeds from the limited-edition'Kindess is Power' tote bag and kits in support of the Kind Campaign. These kits were inspired by Carissa's soothing essentials that help reinforce her confidence and strength to overcome.

The Kind Campaign's mission is to bring awareness and healing to the negative and lasting effects of girl-against-girl bullying.
